The drive from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son forms part of the Mae Hong Son Loop, the main feature of which is the breathtaking scenery along the way, as well as the unusually high number of tight bends and curves along the way, totalling 1,864. You should allow a good five hours for the trip, and longer should you plan to stop off at places of natural beauty along the way. Many drivers will stop off at Pai as a half way point. There are also regular bus services between Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son.
