Getting to Chiang Mai

Flights from Bangkok to Chiang Mai are numerous and a wide variety of airlines fly the route, with departures from both Don Muang and Suwannabhumi airports in Bangkok. Airlines serving the route include Thai Airways, Bangkok Air, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air and Air Asia. There are also direct flights to Chiang Mai from Pai, Mae Sot, Chiang Rai, Phuket, Samui and Khon Kaen. Chiang Mai airport is also accessible from international destinations such as Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Kunming and Luang Prabang.

Travel from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son by road

The drive from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son forms part of the Mae Hong Son Loop, the main feature of which is the breathtaking scenery along the way, as well as the unusually high number of tight bends and curves along the way, totalling 1,864. You should allow a very good four hours for the trip, and longer should you plan to stop off at places of natural beauty along the way. Many drivers will stop off at Pai as a half way point. There are also regular bus services between Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son.
